meet jamila

Hi! I'm Jamila.

The most important thing to know about me is that I'm a proud mom of adult twins, a proud Auntie, a native of Chocolate City (the Washington, DC I grew up in), the daughter of a free-thinker, the granddaughter of a school teacher, a global citizen, and an all-around creative.

I was born to a writer and a graphic designer. Although my parents divorced when I was young, they both encouraged the artist in me. For most of my life, though, I never thought of myself as an artist. I thought I was a crafter—someone who loved making things with my hands and was completely obsessed with architecture and interior design.

I've spent my life making things. I just didn't realize I was becoming an artist.

I've always been fascinated by architecture because I believe the spaces we build shape the way we live. In many ways, I think people are built the same way. We're shaped by our families, our communities, our experiences, our joys, and our struggles. That belief eventually became the foundation of my work.

I spent years creating in different ways before discovering the artistic voice that would become BoxologyART.

But if I'm honest, my lifelong pursuit has never simply been about making art.

It's been about understanding myself and the world I was brought into.

That pursuit is why BoxologyART and INSIDE THE BOX™ feel so deeply aligned with who I am. They aren't just creative projects—they're an extension of what I now believe is my purpose:

To help people better understand themselves, so they can intentionally become the best version of who they're meant to be.

Whether I'm building a portrait one box at a time, designing an immersive experience, or simply having a meaningful conversation with someone I've just met, my hope is always the same:

That they leave feeling a little more seen, a little more understood, and a little more inspired than when they arrived.

Welcome to my world.

I'm so glad you're here.
